Beyond the Score – Health & Well-being in Music and Performing Arts
ÖGfMM Symposium 2026 · 10–12 April 2026 · Mozarteum University Salzburg, Salzburg, Austria
Thank you to all contributors and participants!
The ÖGfMM Symposium Beyond the Score 2026 has come to a close with great success. More than 180 participants from music, medicine, therapy, psychology, research and education came together in Salzburg to exchange perspectives on health, prevention and sustainable excellence in music and the performing arts.
The symposium offered an exceptionally rich and diverse programme with 6 keynotes, 49 presentations, 24 posters and 35 workshops. The scientific programme was complemented by a special guided visit to the Salzburg Festival Hall, lively networking formats, Poster & Wine, and the concluding Gaisberg Summit with Walk & Talk sessions, roundtables and informal exchange.
What made these days truly special was not only the wide range of practical and scientific content, but also the atmosphere: open conversations, human encounters, new connections, shared curiosity and the sense of building something meaningful together. Many of these impulses, ideas and encounters will continue to resonate well beyond the symposium itself.
We would like to thank all speakers, workshop leaders, poster authors, moderators, supporters, partner institutions, sponsors and the many engaged participants for making this symposium such a vibrant and memorable event.

Looking back on a multifaceted symposiumBeyond the Score focused on health and well-being in music and the performing arts. The symposium brought together experts in music physiology, performing arts medicine, music psychology, physiotherapy, performance research, music education and musicology. At the heart of the programme were physical, mental and social health in the music profession, alongside innovative approaches to prevention, health promotion and sustainable artistic development. The programme connected scientific research, clinical practice, pedagogical concepts and artistic experience. Topics ranged from performing arts medicine, ergonomics, mental health and resilience to music therapy, AI-based movement analysis, performance science and higher education. Particularly valuable were the strong international exchange, the many practice-oriented workshops, and the new connections between higher education, healthcare, cultural institutions and freelance practice.
